KERNERSVILLE – Willis Douglas Collins, 94, died Wednesday, March 4, 2020, at Summerstone Health and Rehab Center.
He was born December 12, 1925, in Lumberton and was the son of the late James Clarence “John” and Vernie Mae Willis Collins. He was a retired land surveyor and of the Baptist faith. Douglas served as a scout with the Seventh Army in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre during World War II.
He is survived by daughter, Sandra Myers and husband, Michael, of Greer, SC; son, William “Bill” Douglas Collins and wife, Karen, of Fair Play, SC; eight grandchildren, Ashley Smith (Matt), Karen Garrick (Cliff), Kevin Myers (Katy, fiancée), Janet Collins, Jessie Collins, Julia Roberts (Mitch), Joani Howard (Justin), and Jared (Emily); eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty Finley of Texas.
Graveside service celebrating Douglas’ will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, March 8, 2020, at New Hollywood Cemetery in Lumberton.
