NEWPORT- Owen Joe Cooper, 65, passed away on March 3, 2020, surrounded by his loving family in Portland, Maine. He was born on April 7, 1954, in Waltham, Massachusetts, the son of the late Clarence and Margot (Deckelmann) Cooper Jr. He graduated from Maine Central Institute with the class of 1972.

He proudly served our country in the United States Air Force from 1975-1979, being stationed in Arizona. He received his degree in business management from Beal College.

Owen was a natural "Mr. Fix It". He retired from the Bangor Airport, working as an airline inspector and aviation mechanic. He enjoyed all things outdoors. Fishing, hiking and camping were some of his favorite activities. He was great at sharing stories and telling jokes. He was an avid collector of planes and trains. He was a very caring man, loved his family and cherished his friends.

He is survived by his two daughters: April Howes of Brewer and Karen Mitton and husband Josh of Pittsfield; four grandchildren: Serina, Hannah, Ethan and companion Eliza, and Alex; one great grandson, Bentley; a brother, Vernon Cooper of Pittsfield and his girlfriend Ann Marie Cassidy of St. Albans; a sister, Patty Koenig of Michigan; a special niece, Angel Carr and her two daughters: Samantha and Alisha; and many friends.

A time of visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m., Saturday, March 7, 2020, at the Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Avenue, Pittsfield. A committal with military honors will take place in the spring at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta.
