MARTINSVILLE — Frederick Yune Campbell passed away peacefully at his family home Wednesday Feb. 19, 2020, in Martinsville after bravely fighting complications from diabetes.

Fred was born in Seoul, Korea, March 27, 1959, to Yung Ye Yun.

As a young man, Fred excelled in sports, especially basketball due to his unusually tall stature and he traveled throughout Korea playing in tournaments and winning many trophies and awards.

As a teenager, Fred moved to Tenants Harbor in the summer of 1975.

He was very funny and outgoing and even though there was a language and cultural barrier, Fred quickly made friends and always had a gang of friends over at the house, working on cars and enjoying eating his mom’s amazing Korean cooking!

Fred also helped his mother with her small farm and caring for his younger brothers.

As an adult, Fred worked for Martin Marietta/The Cement Plant for years and also traveled to Europe while working in sales for The Mosler company. He met his former wife, Eva, there who moved here and he had a son, Theodore, with her during their brief marriage. When not doing that he was also a skilled carpenter and loved working on cars always.

Fred was predeceased by his mother Yung Ye Yun. He will be missed and remembered by his brother Kenneth Campbell of St. George, brother Louis and his wife and nephew in N.Y., his youngest brother James Campbell of Rockport and his partner, Ann.

At Fred’s request, he will be cremated and a service announced in the spring.
