BIG STONE GAP, VA - On Feb. 28, 2020 Rose Holyfield was welcomed home by her Heavenly Father, family, and friends. She was born in Big Stone Gap, Virginia on Feb 16, 1931.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Bess Allman Potter, her husband of 52 years, Everett Holyfield and sisters, Gaynell Anderson, Stanley Valley, TN, Mary Insalago, Mount Carmel, TN., and Grace Boggs, Norton, Virginia.
She is survived by seven children; Steve Holyfield (Elaina) of Rising Fawn, GA, Roseann Bush (Larry) of Big Stone Gap, VA, David Mark Holyfield (Ida) of Big Stone Gap,VA, Marsha Williams (Glenn) Big Stone Gap, VA, Phillip Holyfield (Debbie), Big Stone Gap, VA, Candace Krauss (Steve) Ormond Beach, FL, and Jeffrey Holyfield (Jennifer) Big Stone Gap, VA. Rose was blessed with 15 grandchildren, 36 great- grandchildren, and four great- great- grandchildren, and a special friend Hank Hemond.
Those who knew her, loved her feisty, quick wit and sense of humor. She was known for her love of family and kindness. She was a dedicated Christian, who loved her Lord and her Bible. Rose was a member of Oak Grave Freewill Baptist Church before moving to the Laurels in Wise, VA where she attended in house services. Rose was an avid fisherman. She loved being on the lake and hoping to have the catch of the day.
After retirement from Lonesome Pine Hospital where she worked as a Home Health Aide, she enjoyed working in the church kitchen and various activities. She was a member of the Red Hats in Big Stone Gap, enjoying the chance to dress up in purple and red. She never lost the zeal for living life to the fullest. Her smile and the “I love you’s “will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
The Visitation service will be held at Holding Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2020. The service will follow the visitation in the funeral home’s chapel, with Reverend Alan Collier officiating, music will be provided by Russell Phillips.
The entombment will be held in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, at 11:00 a.m. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at Holding Funeral Home by 10:30 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be; Steve Holyfield, David Holyfield, Amos Holyfield, Phillip Holyfield, Brett Holyfield, and Jeff Holyfield.
