Leroy O. "Roy" Halvorsen, of Falcon Heights, MN passed away on Friday, February 21. He was born on October 11, 1932 to parents Oscar and Pauline (Frovold) Halvorsen in Greenwald, MN. He grew up in Swatara, MN with his 8 sisters and one brother and graduated from Hill City High School in 1950. Roy enlisted in the Air Force and spent four years serving during the Korean War. He met his wife Marge upon his arrival in the Twin Cities in 1956 and they were married on August 3, 1957 at University Lutheran Church of Hope. Roy attended the University of Minnesota and graduated with a BBA degree in 1959. Roy spent his entire 31 year working career with The Great Northern Railroad and its successor Burlington Northern where he retired as Director of Shortline Services. During his retirement, Roy and Marge volunteered in many different ways with a significant amount of time spent at the Roseville Area Senior Program. Roy participated in the St. Paul Winter Carnival Senior Royalty activities and was the Prime Minister in 2003. Roy was extremely proud of his Norwegian heritage as all four of his great grandparents emigrated from Norway. Family was always important which meant that Roy and Marge attended as many family celebrations and events as possible with his camera always clicking. Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother, Phillip Halvorsen, 7 sisters, Prudence Graton, Mabel Knowlton, Evelyn Butterfield, Ella Mae Kisslinger, Luccille Okland, Wanda Kortekaas and Helen Halvorsen. Leroy is survived by his loving wife Marge Halvorsen, daughter Lucia Halvorsen, son Mark (Vicky) Halvorsen and one sister Rose Reich, many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be on Friday, February 28th at 11:00 am at University Lutheran Church of Hope, 601 - 13th Avenue SE in Minneapolis.
