Agnes was born in Española, NM on January 1, 1919. Her professional career began there serving as City Clerk in the 1950s. Later she worked at the State Highway Department until her retirement in 1983.
Agnes belonged to The Catholic Daughters of America, Las Amigas del Valle, La Sociedad Folklorica and other social, religious and civic organizations.
Agnes was always the life of the party with her sense of humor and delightful personality. Agnes was full of charm and had a sparkle even into the last days of her life. Agnes was a fastidiously magical cook. Her greatest joy was to teach the art of making delicious tamales, biscochitos, empanaditas and pastelitos while telling her chistes y cuentos.
Agnes was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Diego and Serafina Salazar, siblings, Lydia Salazar Apodaca, Dennis Salazar and Eloy Salazar, son, Timothy Trujillo and granddaughter, Andrea Martínez. Agnes was briefly survived by her eldest brother, Ernesto Salazar, who passed away three days later, on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at age 99 in California.
Agnes is survived by her eldest daughter, Exilda and her husband, Ramón Martinez, son, David and his wife, Rosemary, daughter, Rosamond and her husband, Steve Blevins, sister-in-law, Tillie Salazar, grandchildren, Valerie Martínez and her husband, Paul Resnick, Ramón "Ray" Martínez II and his wife, Annette, René Martínez and her husband, Greg Ridgley, James Martínez and his wife, Elizabeth, John Martínez and his wife, Cheryl, Ken, Michelle, and Sean Peterson and Rafael Velasquez, great-grandchildren, Sierra and Rio Martínez, Niall and Serafina Martínez Ridgley, Alexandra, JR III, and Annelisa Martínez, Sebastian and Nathanial Tafoya. Agnes is also survived by her wonderful caregivers, María Carmona, Yolanda Valencia and Mely Fierro.
Visitation will be at 400 p.m. followed by Rosary recited by the Sociedad Folklorica on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Berardenelli Funeral Home, Santa Fé, NM. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Francis Cathedral Basilica, Santa Fé, NM on Monday, May 16, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Interment following at Rosario Cemetery, Santa Fé, NM.
