"JACOB COMEGYS was a native of Maryland, born near Hagerstown, August 7, 1796, emigrated to what is now West Virginia when a small boy; at the age of twenty to St. Charles county, Missouri; thence to Oregon, in 1847, and to California in 1859. He departed this life at his residence in San Jose, at 1 a.m. November 28, 1870, in the seventy-fifth year of his age."
