Gertrude Ann Adams Jones
August 15, 1932 - February 8, 2020 (age 87)

Trudy Adams Jones, age 87, named Gertrude Ann Adams after her mother, passed away in Cedar City early Saturday morning, February 8, 2020. Born August 15, 1932 to Ancel James and Elizabeth Gertrude Decker Adams, Trudy cherished her childhood and youth in Parowan, Utah. There, despite the hardships of the Great Depression, she prospered in important ways, surrounded by exemplary parents, nine siblings, dozens of relatives, life-long friends, and a town full of good-hearted people she dearly loved.

Growing up, Trudy was a thoughtful and disciplined student, graduating from Parowan High as valedictorian of its Class of 1950. She continued her schooling at Branch Agricultural College in Cedar City and later at Utah State University. Prior to completing her studies in Logan, she met Willard Carroll Jones, the love of her life and eternal partner. They were wed on March 24, 1954 in the St. George Temple and began 57 years of marriage in Cedar City, where they contentedly lived the remainder of their life together until Willard’s death on May 24, 2011. To their union came three boys and two girls, Robert (Karla Adams), Alan (LuWenn Tait), Jay (Lorinda Cook), Carolyn (William Heaton) and Linda (Scott Adams).

Trudy is remembered and treasured by her family for her strong faith in Jesus Christ, for her unwavering devotion, her gentleness and generosity, and for the selfless love she showed to her family and others, addressing their needs before her own. She served reliably in many capacities in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, in the PTA, and in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She worked from 1982 to 1998 at Southern Utah University in Student Health Services. Following retirement, she and Willard were called to the New Jersey Cherry Hill Mission where they served the young missionaries and the urban poor, a labor for which they were well-suited and to which they gave their full energy.

In her last years, Trudy was beset by Alzheimer’s disease, which ultimately claimed her. Despite its increasingly ravaging effects on her mind and body, she remained appreciative of her caregivers to the end, her last discernable words expressed love and gratitude to a daughter-in-law for her enduring attentiveness. The family thanks all who have blessed Trudy in countless ways through the years, including neighbors, relatives and friends, and in her last months, the compassionate professionals at the Beehive Memory Care Home and from Zion’s Way Hospice.

Trudy is survived by three younger siblings, Spencer, Lloyd, and Sharon, and by her five children and spouses, 23 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren who will be forever grateful for the tender affection given each one by their angelic mother and grandmother. Predeceasing her were her beloved husband, six older siblings, Maurine, Loraine, Bryce, Bernarr, Hardy, and Vilo, and an infant granddaughter, Heidi Heaton.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon, Saturday, February 15, 2020 at the Cedar 2nd/9th/17th Wards’ meetinghouse, 256 South 900 West. Visitation will be at the church, from 10:00 to 11:30 AM the day of the services at the same location. Interment will be in the Cedar City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. www.sumortuary.com
