Gary Lee Armstrong, age 87, was born and raised in Atoka, In 1959 he moved to Oklahoma City until returning with his family to Atoka in 1971. He was born on November 18, 1932, to William Howard and Augusta Georgia (Evans) Armstrong, at Atoka, OK. Gary passed away on February 03, 2020 at Denison, TX. He attended and graduated from Atoka High School in 1952. Gary attended East Central State and played football on a scholarship. As a kid Gary worked at Thompson Theater. Then work for freight companies in Oklahoma City, owned and operated Armstrong Window and Door Company, worked 21 years in Oklahoma City Fire Department where he retired as Captain. After returning from service, he served as a policeman in Atoka and drove a school bus for Harmony Public School. Gary proudly served in the US. Army as Military Police while stationed in Germany.
He married Betty JoAn Kennedy in 1957 in Durant, They celebrated 37 years of marriage before her passing in October of 1993. Gary then married Karen Housely, until her passing.. Gary married Eva Rosetta Buford on May 21, 2006 in Durant, OK Gary was a member and Elder of Victory Life Church in Durant since 1986. He was a proud member of the Choctaw Nation. Gary served on the Choctaw Indian Credit Board for over 30 years. He was a Deacon at Shields Blvd Baptist Church .
Gary in survived by his wife, Eva Armstrong of the home in Atoka, OK; children, Gary Armstrong and wife Lori of Atoka, OK, Jeff Armstrong of Atoka, OK, Neal Armstrong and wife Ann of Milburn, OK, Sherri Marlyenne Gordon and husband Danny of Durant, OK, David Lynn Freeman and wife Mary of Pottsboro, TX, Evelyn Renee Albright and husband Cary of Leedey, OK, Alma DeAnn Prince of Durant, OK; grandchildren, Chandra Potter, Mandi Peebles, Chase Hutson, Zach Armstrong, Jill LaCroix, Josh Armstrong Eric Armstrong, Corey Bundrant, Royce Bundrant , Jennifer Jones, Matthew Freeman, Zane Hall, Colt Harris, Adam Harris, Blake Harris, Clay Albright, Kelsey Longhofer; 26 great greatgrandchildren, Along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many dear and loved friend.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, William Howard and Augusta Georgia (Evans) Armstrong; brother, Billy Gene Armstrong; sister, Patricia Gale Sapp
