I believe this to be Stephen Wilburn Hallmark even though the headstone says only S. Hallmark. The dates match and the family was living in the area at this period in time.

Stephen Wilburn was born about 1816, probably in Harris County, Georgia. There are census records that state that Tennessee was his birth place. He was born to John H Hallmark and Amey Anna Satterwhite. His family was definitely in Harris Co. Georgia by 1830.

On March 29, 1835, he married Ann Rittie Collins in Troup County, Georgia. Some trees give her name as Martha Ann, but I have found only Ann in the records.

In the 1840 census, they are still living in Troup County, Georgia and their oldest three children, John, Elijah and Sarah Ann were all born their. By the end of 1842, when their daughter Martha Jane was born, they were in Alabama and stayed there for the birth of Ann, S. B. and George W.

By 1860, they were in Marshall, Harrison County, Texas. Stephen and his two oldest sons, John and Elijah joined the 28th Cavalry Regiment from Shelby County, Texas in 1862 and served throughout the Civil War.

In 1870, Stephen and Ann are living in Upshur County, Texas. Their son George is living with them and also their daughter Ann's three daughters, Sarah, Viola and Susan.

In 1880, Stephen and Ann are in Hunt County, Texas and his granddaughter Susan is still living with them.

This is the last record found so far on Stephen. Some have his death in Haskell County, Texas, but I believe this to be his burial site.
