Orville L. Davis, A.B., M.A., S.T.B., D.D., born in 1890 (sic - He was born in 1900), a son of William H. and Etta Davis, was a college administrator, Methodist minister, missionary and teacher of religious education. He was one of three graduates in a class of seven from Lizton High School (1917) who were prominent ministers and religious leaders, a member of the 1914 Boy Scout troop of wide reputation, a player on the Lizton basketball team in the state tourney of 1917, and a four-year regular in baseball at DePauw University. Orville Davis married Anna Lois Overstreet in 1925. Anna was a DePauw University graduate from Lizton. Two daughters, Elizabeth Carolyn and Marjorie, were born to Orville and Anna. Orville graduated from DePauw, did three years of graduate study at Boston University with an S.T.B. degree, filled a pastorate in Montana, taught in the Union Theological Seminary, Manila, P.I., for five years, earned a master's degree at Northwestern University and served as secretary of the graduate school at Gammon Theological Seminary in Atlanta, Georgia. Orville then was listed as one of about 100 graduates of DePauw becoming college presidents by assuming that position at Leonard Theological Seminary, Jubbulpore, India, for seven years. He then had one year of graduate study at Drew University at Madison, New Jersey, which contributed toward a doctorate degree. After teaching one year at Westminster College, Orville returned to DePauw as an administrator, the director of church relations and student religious activities from 1946 to 1960, the year of his death.

Dr. Orville Davis, former resident of Lizton, died, Saturday, in the Putnam County Hospital at the age of 60 years. He was born south of Clermont, January 31, 1900, the fifth child of a family
of seven born to William H. and Flora Etta Freeland Davis. The family moved to Lizton when he was a young child. He graduated from Lizton High School and was married to Anna Lois Overstreet in the Lizton Methodist Church. They were both ordained missionaries, having served in the Philippine Islands and India. He joined the DePauw staff in 1946 as an associate professor of religion.

Services were conducted, Monday, in the Gobin Methodist Church in Greencastle. Survivors include the widow, Anna; two daughters, Mrs. Benjamin Dean, of Greencastle, and Mrs. William Brines, of Flint, Mich.; two sisters, Mrs.
Pearl Chastain, of Indianapolis, and Mrs. Alta Scott, of Lizton; a brother, Floyd Davis, principal of Greensburg High School, and six grandchildren.
