Joan, lovingly known as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who spent her life building an open door, open kitchen, open hearted, loving home alongside her husband of 60 years. She passed away on January 6, 2020. This precious day she left this world, was in her home…embraced by the warmth of her loving husband, Reed Howard.

She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Dorothy and Golden Stewart on August 25, 1939. She graduated from Bountiful High School in Utah, and then attended the University of Utah. In 1969 she moved to California with her husband and three children. After moving to California she worked in real estate and managed the Simi Valley Branch of the TMC Escrow Company until she retired. She was always busy with a multitude of activities beyond taking care of her family and home. Being involved as president (2012) of the Conejo Valley Encore club and playing bridge with her friends.

Joan was happiest when she was in the kitchen cooking for a house full of friends and family, experimenting with food to feed us just to watch our eyes pop! A bright light and confident spirit was what Joan was and will continue to be for the rest of our days, she will just continue to guide us with her light and send us love and compassion. In addition to maintaining close relationships with many of her friends she enjoyed traveling and taking care of her grandchildren. Family trips took them across the US and later Joan would visit China and several countries in Europe.

She is preceded in death by her Parents; Sisters, Julie Stewart and Sandra Wright. She is survived by her husband, Reed Howard; Sons, Kevin Howard and Todd Howard; Daughter, Kristen Reed; eight Grandchildren; and three Great-Grandchildren. She also leaves behind so many others that were fortunate to meet and learn from her and experience a true enthusiasm for life and selfless giving to those she could. There was always warmth and love that she had so generously and selflessly provided us all with every day; we thank her.

The Family wishes to extend their gratitude to Friends and Relatives who supported them through their grief. We thank everyone for their kind celebration to be a part of Joan's life.

Joan's wishes were to be cremated with her ashes scattered at sea. Memorial service to honor Joan will be held at The Rose Family Funeral Home Saturday February 1, 2020 beginning at 11:00 AM. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Joan's life to share in good food, good company, and good memories…

Memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. with a reception to follow on Saturday, February 1, 2020, at Rose Family Funeral Home Chapel. The address is 4444 Cochran Street, Simi Valley. (805) 581-3800. All are welcome.
