Jeanne Ann Nelson
Nov 1, 1946 - Jan 28, 2020

Jeanne Ann Nelson, age 73, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2020. She was born in Irving, Texas, on November 1, 1946, and lived most of her life in the Oklahoma City area. She was the only child of William Ervin Nelson and Lillie Viola Roark Nelson of Mead, Oklahoma.

As a young woman, Jeanne worked as a typesetter for The Daily Oklahoman for eight years in the late 1960s and early 1970s. She spent two decades at home raising her five children, along the way founding Castle Cockers, a kennel dedicated to producing high-quality purebred cocker spaniels to show. In the early 1990s, she returned to college and began mastering new computer technologies. She worked for ten years as the principal database administrator for the Oklahoma Department of Consumer Credit before retiring in 2008.

Jeanne was a member of Crossings Community Church in Oklahoma City. She was a lifelong animal lover, spending her childhood on horseback and much of her adult life breeding, grooming and fostering dogs. She was a free spirit who never did anything halfway, whether it was raising children, breeding dogs, practicing her Christian faith, or learning about computers. She loved to talk and had an unbeatable sense of humor. She was a role model for finding strength through adversity. One of her favorite quotes was "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger."

She was preceded in death by her parents and by her first child, Vaughn Lawrence James. She is survived by eleven loving children and grandchildren: three daughters, Christy, Heather, and Kim; a son, Mike; and seven grandchildren, Josie, Hamza, Sabira, Danya, Lauren, Allison, and Claire. All of these she loved and touched deeply.

Funeral services for Jeanne will be held on Saturday, February 1st, at 9:30 a.m. at Corbett Funeral Home, 807 W. Wilshire Blvd., in Oklahoma City, OK. Friends and family are invited to gather there from 8:30 on. Final place of rest will follow at 3:00 p.m. in Woodberry Forest Cemetery in Madill, Oklahoma.
