Daryl D. Schweer, 79 years of age, of Beatrice passed away at the Beatrice Community Hospital Wednesday morning, January 29, 2020. He was born on March 16, 1940 near Ohiowa, NE to Emil and Alvina (Ortgies) Schweer. He was a 1957 graduate of Alexandria High School, Alexandria, NE. Daryl and Dona Bedlan were married on August 30, 1959. He had been an elevator manager in Western, Blue Springs and Friend, NE and in Garner, IA until he retired in 2005, and they then moved to Beatrice in 2006. Daryl had been a member of the church council in Western; secretary of the Lake Association in Beatrice; and member of the chamber of commerce in the communities where he had lived. Daryl enjoyed woodworking, fishing, boating and camping, attending races in Fairbury and Beatrice, was an avid Husker fan and was an animal lover (his cat Shooter Jennings). More recently he enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino and bird watching.

Survivor include his wife Dona; son Dan Schweer and wife Tammy of Clay Center; grandchildren Tiffany, Ty and Dylan Schweer; 2 sisters Norie Berand of Tampa and Shirley Schweer of Omaha; sister in law Gladys Schweer of North Platte; nieces and nephews Judy & Paul Butler, Jackie & Mike Heald, Jim & Sandy Bulin, Sally Moore, Pam & Gary Dein, and Kris Schweer; and special friends Lois Knigge and Marilyn Gill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Diane (1986); brother Loren Schweer; sister Darlane Bulin; and special family friend Jim Swanson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at the Presbyterian Church, 2310 H Street in Fairbury with Reverend Douglas Hielman officiating. Interment at the Andrew Cemetery, Friend, NE. The body will lie in state Monday from 10-8:00 with family greeting friends from 6-7:30 PM at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice, and at the church one hour preceding the funeral on Tuesday. Family prayer service will be held at 10:45 AM Tuesday at the church. A memorial has been established to the family’s choice with the funeral home in charge.
