He was the son of William and Philomena (Clune) Gerlach. On Oct 23, 1954, he married Elsie Krieg, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are five sons: Steven (Jane), Coldwater, Daniel (Terri), St. Marys, Douglas (Cheri), Celina, William, Clayton, NC, and Alan (Pam) Gerlach, Wapakoneta; a sister, Dorothy Niekamp; seven in-laws: Virg (Rosie) Krieg, Lucy Rose, Ron (Marlene) Schmitz, Harold (Pat) Krieg, John (Marie) Sacher, Karen Bergman and Ralph (Kate Hemmelgarn) Fullenkamp; and fourteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a daughter-in-law, Valerie Gerlach; a granddaughter, Nicole Gerlach; five brothers and two sisters, all linked below: and three brothers-in-law: Mark Niekamp, Carl Rose and Don Bergman.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater, Coldwater American Legion Post #470, Coldwater V.F.W. Post #5135 where he was past commander and a 30 year member of the firing squad. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and retired from Minster Farmers Exchange after 38 years. He was also a farmer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at Holy Trinity Church, Coldwater. Burial with military rites will follow in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.
