A Celebration of life for Edward Smith Fields, 58, of Houston will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ, 3115 Blodgett Street, Houston, Texas 77004 where Pastor A. Keith Edwards will be the officiant. A Graveside service has been set and Burial will follow at 1:30 PM at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Danciger, Texas. (if burial is possible due to inclement weather)

Visitation will also be on Saturday, January 25, 2020 from 9:45 AM until Service time at the church.

On February 12, 1961, Edward (Ed) Smith Fields was born to Jesse Fields and Nova Raye Fields. Ed attended schools in Houston Independent School District: G. B. M. Turner Elementary, W. E. Miller Junior High and Jack Yates Senior High School, where he graduated with honors. Ed also attended Prairie View A & M University and graduated with honors in Mechanical Engineering.

Upon graduation from PVAMU, Ed served his country by enlisting in the United States Army as a 2nd Lieutenant after basic training at Fort Benning in Columbus, GA. He was stationed in Germany and then Korea. He also attended flight school and became a licensed helicopter pilot in Enterprise, AL. Ed was united in marriage to Roxie Ford and to this union a son was born, Cameron Fields.

After serving overseas he was assigned to Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas where he retired. Following his military retirement, Ed was employed by a Pharmaceutical company as a Sales Representative and he continued to enjoy his favorite hobbies which were basketball and football. His kind and gentle spirit will be missed. All who knew Ed and loved him have lost.
Ed was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Fields; brother, Jackie Wayne Sanders, Sr.; grandparents, Walter and Clara Fields and Henry and Bossie White; great aunt, Eva Smith Miller and uncle, Louis E. White.

Cherished memories will live on in the hearts of those he loved. Left with those memories are his mother, Nova Raye White Fields; beloved son, Cameron Fields; step son, Brandon Franks and Special play son, Michael Thompson; aunt, Doris Huey; uncles, Henry R. “Jack” White and Frank Fields; cousins, Cora Dora, Clara Tims, Vesley White, Charles White and a host of other cousins and friends.
