Salome was the daughter of a Baron in Germany. She emegrated to Granville with her husband, Mathias Toennessen in1856. She died "instantaneously" of apoplexy (modern term, stroke) in 1860. (Per Milwaukee Co. 1860 Census Granville Mortality Schedule.) She was the wife of a farmer.

Susan Fassbender says "When Salome applied for her emigration papers on February 22, 1856, she applied as Salome Bell, wife of Mathias Toennessen, and widow of Johann Fassbender. By registering herself as such, if there was an inheritence that she was entitled to down the road, she would be able to prove who she was and come back into the country (Germany) to claim the inheritance."
