DRY GROVE TOWNSHIP
Mrs. Elizabeth Snell is the only person in Dry Grove township over 90. Her maiden name was Elizabeth Hubbell. She was born in Seneca county, N.Y., December 31, 1803. In 1815 she moved to Ohio and at the age of 17 was married to Mr. Appleton Snell. In 1833 they moved to Knox county, Ill., where they lived twenty-five years. Mr. Snell died in 1864, aged 68. She is the mother of eight children, of whom three are living. She now resides with her daughter, Mrs. William Henry, two miles west of Yuton. She enjoys good health, walks without a cane and reads without glasses. She is a good conversationalist, and relates incidents of her past life in a clear manner, having an excellent memory. She is a devout Christian, and has been a member of the Methodist church for seventy-two years.
In the 1850 census Appleton age 54 and Elizabeth age 47 are in Knox Co. IL with Anna age 18, Appleton age 14, Lydia age 11 and Isaiah age 5.
In the 1860 US census Apleton age 64 and Elizabeth age 56 are in Guthrie, Faribault Co. MN with Lydia age 21 and Josiah[sic] age 15. A 23 year old Jacob Snell is there too...I think that Appleton Jr. and Jacob are the same person.
