Son of Ariel J. & Mary Cooper Murdoch, he was born in Oswego and graduated from Oswego schools. Husband of Clarissa Lewis Murdoch. They were the parents of Edith (Reed) & Genevieve

He was a railroad man for more than 40 years for the New York Central, retiring an engineer. He was a loyal, dependable well regarded employee by coworkers and supervisors.

He was active in Masonry, was presented a 50 year Grand Lodge service medal in 1946. He was given a palm when he reached his 60th year in the fraturnity which he helped to raise.

He was a member of Oswego Lodge No 127, F.& A.M. Lake Ontario Chapter 165. R.A.M. Lake Ontario Commander No. 32 K.T. & Media Temple, Mystic Shrine Watertown. He was a well known republican and was deeply concerned with the welfare of Oswego and strove to advance the interests of the city.
