Obituary
The funeral of John W. Merklinger, 48, of Mount Royal, Que., who died Friday in Cornwall from injuries received in a car accident, will be conducted here Tuesday. A private service will be held at 3 p.m. at the Walsh Funeral Home, Waterloo, followed by a service at Emmanuel Evangelical UB Church, Waterloo, at 2: 30 p.m. Rev. E. E. Hallman will officiate and burial will be made in Waterloo Mount Hope Cemetery.
Mr. Merklinger, who was born in Waterloo, was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Merklinger. He was merchandising manager of Zeller's Ltd. of Montreal. Surviving are his wife; one son, John of Toronto; a daughter, Mrs. Leonard (Constance) Mills, Noranda, Que; six brothers, Samuel, George and Frank, all of Tavistock; Fred of Reid City, Mich.; David of Woodstock and Peter of Waterloo; and four sisters, Miss Betty Merklinger, Mrs. Clarence Neeb and Mrs. Walter Meisner, all of Tavistock and Mrs. Clarence Thaler, Plainsville, Ohio.
Mr. Merklinger was raised and educated in the Twin Cities, and began his career with Zeller's in the Kitchener store. He left about 29 years ago and served in Zeller's stores in various cities in eastern and western Canada before joining the head office staff in Montreal. At the time of the accident, he and his wife, the former Wanda Fellbaum of Kitchener, were driving to Toronto to visit their son, John. Mrs. Merklinger was injured but was reported to be improving yesterday. Two passengers in the other car involved lost their lives and a third passenger was injured.
