Note: Oakwood was the City Cemetery from 1886 to 1903: "Oakwood is the oldest cemetery [in Austin, Tex.]. Provision for a cemetery was made in 1839 when the city was founded, and in that year, according to Frank Brown, "the regular burying place was established on the southwest part of the present city cemetery." In 1856, Oakwood was deeded to the city by the State of Texas. In 1866, Temple Beth Israel bought two sections for its congregation. The official name has changed several times. In 1886, it was named "City Cemetery." In 1903, the name was changed to Austin City Cemetery, and in 1912 it received its present name." Source: Austin (Tex.).
