He was born in Gordon County, December 4, 1942, son of the late Narvie Edwin Hicks and Ora Bearden Hicks. He was a member of Plainview Baptist Church. Mr. Hicks retired from the City of Calhoun after 38 years of service. A lover of animals, you really never knew what he would have on the farm. He raised everything from hogs, chickens, and cows. He enjoyed the outdoors, fox and deer hunting, and being with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Lloyd Hicks and Emory Hicks; sister, Jeanelle Dean.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Clara Hicks; sons and daughter-in-laws, Jerry Hicks, Michael and Regina Hicks, and Bruce and Shea Hicks; grandchildren, Whitney and Greg Long, Cpt. Andrew and Amy Hicks, Leia Mitchell, Lana and Chris Cowart, Tyler Hicks, and Emalie Hicks; great-grandchildren, Karli Cowart, Amberly Cowart, Wyatt Long, Waylon Long, and Owen Hicks; brother, Lonzo and Shirley Hicks and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 7, 2019, at 2:00 PM at Union Grove Baptist Church with Reverends Mark Harris, Sawyer Springfield, and Joel Alexander officiating. Interment will follow in the Plainview Baptist Church Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church from 1:30 PM until 2:00 PM.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Hicks, Tyler Hicks, Chris Cowart, Greg Long, Sawyer Springfield, and Mark Bunch. Honorary pallbeaers include Hank Hazelwood, K. O. Cornwell, Wayne Cole, Buck Baker, Linda Brookshire, Cathy Harrison, James Clark, and Charley Allen.
