Maria Ingels was born in Henry County, Indiana, December 5, 1830, was married to George Ingels October 2, 1851, and moved to Howard County the same year in which county she has since lived up to the time of her death which occurred January 3, 1894, being at the time of her death 63 years and 28 days old. The deceased had been a member of the Christian church for about forty-four years. She first united with the Christian church near Hagerstown but subsequently became a member of the Center Christian Church, Howard County, of which church she was an honored and faithful member at the time of her death. In her death, the church loses one of its most faithful members, the neighborhood one of its best citizens. Said a man to me on our way to the funeral: "This community, as well as the family, will deeply feel the loss of Sister Ingels." She had a willing heart and hand to help in time of trouble or need. The husband has lost a faithful and devoted wife who has stood side by side with him for many years, sharing alike the joys and sorrows of life. The children have lost a kind and loving mother.
Funeral services were held at Hopewell M.E. Church, sermon by K. E. West of this city. The church was much too small to accommodate the large audience which assembled to pay their tributes of respect to the deceased and family. Brother Ingels and family are not left to mourn as those who have no hope. Ther wife and mother is not lost but gone before. What is called death, to her, was a happy transition from a world of sorrow and pain to a world of joy and bliss forever more. May God's grace sustain the family in their sad bereavement. K.E.W.
