Leandro soldier killed in combat

San Leandro- Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Souza, 1324 135th Ave., have been notified that their son, Pfc. Raymond Joseph Souza, 20, an infantryman in Vietnam, was killed in combat.

Pfc. Souza, a member of the Americal Division, enlisted in the Army last July 29. He took his infantry training at Ft. Lewis, Wash., and was sent to Vietnam last Jan. 12.

A native of San Leandro, he graduated from San Leandro High School. He was to have married Cindy Lopez of San Leandro in January upon his return from Vietnam.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Vierra, also of San Leandro.
