US Army Scout killed at the Battle of the Little Big Horn. Bull (Ho-cus-ta-rix) was an Arikara, who served as scout with the 7th U.S. Cavalry Regiment. He was also a leader in the Grass Dance Society, and a member of the tribal police. He was described as 45 yrs old, 5"11", black eyes and hair with a "copper complexion." At the Battle of the Little Bighorn, Bull accompanied Major Marcus Reno's battalion into the Valley Fight. Bull was killed during Reno's disorganized retreat from the Little Bighorn Valley. His horse with blood on the empty saddle was seen by several other scouts. Though Bull has a marker on Reno's Bluff, witnesses claim he never made it across the Little Bighorn River during the retreat. Fellow scouts believed he had been killed on the west side of the river. Bull's name is also on the mass grave marker at the top of Last Stand Hill.
