Benjamin Horn was the fourth of thirteen children of Philip Horn and Catherine Schaeffer. According to the Horn Bible, his siblings were: Martin, Johannes, Jacob, Anna Maria, George, Philip Henry, Maria Catherine, David, William Michael, Elizabeth Charlotte, Carolina Amalia, and Henrietta Catharine.

According to census records, Benjamin was a financially successful man for his time, and had at least 3 household servants over the years. Ben was a tanner by trade and according to an 1850 MD Slave Schedule, was owner of a slave named John Davis, who escaped. Ben published a NOTICE of REWARD, but it is not known if John Davis was returned to him. Benjamin inherited his father's house at Fremont Ave. or Pennsylvania Ave., and in 1845 lived on Hooks Lane near Whatcoat Chapel, from whence he had the slave.

He married his first wife, Regina Reppert, on July 5, 1834. Ben and Regina had seven children: Caroline A., who married Henry N. Bankard; Sophie O., who married William J. Delay; Mary, who married Frederick Rice; Clara Virginia; George; and Hannah Filmore Horn Shafer who married Jacob Conrad Shafer. Regina died in Dec. 15, 1851.

Just after the death of Regina, Benjamin married Mary A. [nee PARK(?)] in 1852. They had nine children: Mary H.; Ida H.(who married Clarence Parker>see memorial no. 88658486); Benjamin F.; Martin L.; Jacob Park; Adeline L.; Florence Louisa; Catherine B.; and Philip Reppert Horn.

The cause of Benjamin's death is unknown, but he is buried along with his second wife and some of their children and grandchildren, which might have caused some friction among the Horn and Reppert families of his first wife.

NOTE: Regina is buried in Loudon Cemetery too, but Benjamin did not purchase his cemetery lots until 1871 -- 20 years after her death. She was previously buried in Zion German Lutheran Church Cemetery. Regina was moved to Loudon under the auspices of her children and paid for by her Reppert relative - not by her husband Benjamin. Her Loudon gravestone, turned over in the mud, has recently been unearthed.
