Alexander

Phyllis Jean Alexander, 49, of El Toro, Calif., died Wednesday, Jan. 27 at Mission Community Hospital.

Funeral services were 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31 in the Sayre United Methodist Church with the Reverends Joe Peery and Gene Cooprider officiating. Burial was in the Sayre-Doxey Cemetery. Services were directed by Rose Chapel Funeral Service of Sayre.

Phyllis, daughter of M.L. and Velma Woods, was born May 24, 1938 at Elk City. She attended Sayre Schools, graduating in 1956. Phyllis attended Tonkawa Junior College and OSU two years prior to moving to Southern California in 1959. She graduated from Long Beach State University in 1962.

She taught fourth grade in Long Beach five years. The following 18 years she devoted herself to being a mother and homemaker. She also did volunteer work for educational and church activities, serving at Mission Viejo Mt. Olive Lutheran Church as Sunday school superintendent. She was on the church council and served as education committee chairperson.

In 1986 Phyllis returned to teaching at Capistrano Valley Christian School in San Juan, Capistrano, Calif. She taught third grade until her death.

Preceding her in death was one infant son.

survivors include her husband, Vogan; one daughter, Jean Michelle Alexander; one son, Brian Hillary Alexander, all of the home; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M.L. Woods of Sayre; one brother, Harold Dean Woods of Montgomery, Ala.
