Harold "Hal" Dean Woods
Harold Dean Woods, best known as "Hal" to his friends and family, was born on August 30, 1934 in Sayre, OK. Hal's hike to the summit of Mount Fuji was only one of the beautiful things that helps one know the man many admired.
Hal was a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force, where he was an Engineer and Meteorologist. Hal served as a Professor of Aerospace Studies at North Carolina State University. Hal attended Stillwater College, Oklahoma State University, Salt Lake City University, and North Carolina State University where he obtained multiple degrees in each specialty.
In Hal's earlier years, he attended Sayre High School, graduating in 1953. During his time there, he played football, participated in track and field (earning at least 16 metals for his excellence), played the drums in the band, and was assigned to the PE-ET Honor Society by The University of Oklahoma, a high academic honor of the time.
Hal, a simple midwestern man from Oklahoma, was a man to be honored to know, but to know him, you loved him. Hal was driven, kind, and a truly remarkable man. The stories that surround each person's memory of Hal, there is an obvious pattern in their willingness to speak about the good natured, loving, and supportive man that Hal had always been. To know him, was to love him.
Hal is survived by his spouse of over 40 Years, Janice Woods of Hartford, Casey Woods (son), Cheri Taylor (daughter), Max Thompson (Sharon) (brother-in-law), Vogan Alexander (brother-in-law), Gail Thompson (sister-in-law), and multiple generations of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Hal was proceeded in death by his parents, Velma and M.L. Woods, Phyllis Alexander (sister), and Randall Thompson (brother-in-law).
The service will be held at Bottoms Garden Chapel in Hartford, Alabama on 17 January 2023 at 1:00PM (Visitation) with a service to start at 2:00PM.
Hal will be laid to rest in the Hartford City Cemetery.
In leu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Disabled Veterans Association, the Gideons, or Bibles for troops.
