Funeral services for John W. and Nellie E. Metzger who died in a traffic accident near Pevely, March 25, were conducted Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Hayti, with Rev. Donny Hutchinson and Rev. John Wilson officiating. Burial was in the Dry Bayou Cemetery in the Concord Community with Jimmy Osburn Funeral Home of Hayti in charge.
Mrs. Metzger was born September 1, 1890 in Concord, Mo. to William Jacob "Jake" Williams and Mary Florence Latimore Williams. Mr. Metzger was born October 18, 1895 at Diehlstadt, Mo. to Patrick Henry Metzger and Lydia Jane Pollard Metzger.
They are survived by three daughters, Mrs. Margaret (Antonio) Del Monaco, Mrs. Mayola (Boots) Cross, and Miss Geneva Metzger; five sons, Murrell (Marie) Mullins, JW (Marilyn June) Metzger, Cletus (Sue) Metzger, Ralph (Jean) Metzger, and Jimmy (Rosa Lee) Metzger; 18 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mrs. Metzger is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Modest (Sherman) Metzger and Mrs. Lottie (P.M.) Miller; and two brothers, Wesley (Florence)Williams and Luther (Inez) Williams.
Mr. Metzger is also survived by one brother, Sherman (Modest) Metzger; and five sisters, Mrs. Gertie (Buster) Sanders, Mrs. Elma (Francis) McAnally, Mrs. Eva (William) McAnally, Mrs. Mamie (Harry) Gurlin and Mrs. Effie (Hubert) Sharp.
Active pallbearers were Lennie Watkins, Jr. , Robert Bailey, Junior Sample, Sharon Sample, Joe Henderson, Bill Hayes, Ralph Hayes, Otis Lafferty, Bob Brantley, Jimmy Lee Wilson, James Wilson and Troy McCollum.
