Our beautiful Margaret passed peacefully in her sleep, Sunday Jan. 3, 2021, at Hospice of the Piedmont, Charlottesville, where she was being cared for due to advanced Pancreatic Cancer. She was deeply loved and will missed by family and friends.

The eldest daughter of Thomas and Lily Marrs Clements, Margaret grew up on Montrose Ave in Belmont. As a child attending Clark Elementary, she developed an early passion for reading; books would be important to her thru out her life. She established life-long friendships there with both children and adults, and when only 7, met the love of her life; handsome 17-year-old Hugh, who was helping his Dad deliver ice. Not immediately a romance, but they married 12 years later in 1951 and had five children: four boys and one girl.

Devoted wife and mother, Margaret filled their Rockland Ave home with love, laughter, and provided daycare for several working moms in the area. She loved all living things, plants, animals, birds, babies, iris, lilac, roses, orchids, cats, and dogs. Warm, kind, and generous; she was also a great cook who enjoyed sharing good food with her neighbors.

By working Christmas hours, at Fink's Jewelers downtown, she developed sales skills; it was her favorite holiday. When her youngest son started school, Margaret went to work full time for Glassner Jewelers, Barracks Rd. A charming personality, she sparkled like the gems she sold; easily making friends with customers she met.

She and Hugh later moved to Wayne Ave for many years and then, one more move to Soloman Ct.; once again expanding their circle, meeting new neighbors and creating lasting friendships. She retired from Glassner's in 1997.

Margaret loved to travel, she was particularly fond of beaches and small rural towns, antique shops and bookstores. She attended the SPCA's annual book sale religiously. She and Hugh drove and flew across the country, exploring new places, wherever her children happened to be living, including a trip to Vancouver, Canada. A Caribbean cruise with her best friend Laura and a London trip with her sister and daughter were highlights for her.

She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 62 years, Lonnie Hugh Norford, her sister, E. Alice Clements, her "sister", Laura Lambert Velle of Richmond and great-grand child, Nolan Williams-Abel. She is survived by children; Tommy, Ruth Anne, Phillip, Andy, David, their respective spouses, eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and her favorite "child" Rufus; the Boston Terrier. She loved them all.

Due to COVID, no visitation or a service at this time, but the family plans to celebrate Margaret's life with a Memorial Service in the spring. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Riverview Cemetery.

The family is thankful for the generous care Margaret received at Hospice House and suggests donations in her memory be made to Hospice of the Piedmont at www.hopva.org, Charlottesville/ Albemarle SPCA at www.caspca.org, or to a local food bank.

May her memory be a blessing to all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
