Dale was born January 2, 1935 in Freeman, Missouri, a son of James LeRoy Farr and Mary Amanda (Wilson) Farr. He married Donna Sanders on May 17, 1956 at Westline Christian Church in Westline, Missouri and to this union, three children were born: Trent, Trisha, and Valorie. When he found free time, he enjoyed fishing, but also enjoyed his garden.
