Born in the area of Saint-Salomon in the commune of Guern, at the age of 17, Julien chose to remain in France when his family left for Canada in early 1905. Shortly after that, he married Jeanne Le Ny in the greater Paris area on May 2, 1905.

Records indicate he served in the defense of the town of Caen, and lost his life in the position of his artillery battery, of injuries sustained in a shell blast.
