Richard “Dick” Appleton age 90 died December 29, 2019 at Strong Memorial Hospital. He was born June 24, 1929 in North Tonawanda, a son of the late William and Kathleen (Parker) Appleton. He had lived in this area most of his life.
Dick served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of the Faith Alliance Church, he sang in the Barber Shop Quartet and loved to putter around his house. Dick worked as a model maker at Brake Shoe in Medina for 10 years, and after, was sole proprietor of Dick Appleton Tools; selling tools from his truck for 27 years. Afterwards, Dick worked for the Albion Post Office, where many remember him as their rural carrier.
In addition to his parents, Dick was predeceased by his wife, Rosalie in 2001; his son, Chris in 2013; grandson, Jesse in 2019; and his sister, Barbara Jean Carver.
He is survived by his sons, Steven of Brockport, Jeffrey of Albion; grandchildren, Joshua and Micah (Erika) Waugh of Pennsylvania, Michael Darr of Pennsylvania, Jeremy Appleton of Pennsylvania, Devon Appleton of Stafford; great-grandchildren, Lyric, Akira, Ecko, Renee; as well as several nieces; nephews; and cousins.
The family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc. 21 West Avenue Albion on Friday, from 2-4 and 6-8pm, where his Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, at 11am. Interment and Military Honors will be in Mount Albion Cemetery.
