My record shows he was born on February 4, 1853, but grave marker shows February 23. Son of Calvin & Lucinda A. (MORGAN) BLAND. Married 23 MAY 1871 in Troup County, Georgia, to Mary Ophelia LANE [date and county courtesy of Rhonda Lane - thanks!].

"F. W. BLAND DIED THIS MORNING: Rose Hill Merchant Passed Away After a Short Illness. // Mr. F. W. BLAND, an old and highly respected merchant of Columbus for the past eight years, died a few minutes after midnight this morning at his home, 2314 Hamilton avenue, after a short illness. The funeral and interment will take place at Pine Knot Springs at a time to be announced later. // Mr. BLAND, who was 68 years of age, is survived by a widow, three sons and five daughters. He was a consistent member of the Primitive Baptist church, a devoted father and husband and highly though of by all with whom he was associated. Until moving to Columbus eight years ago, he was a lifelong resident of Pine Knot Springs, where he was engaged in the mercantile business."

"MR. F. W. BLAND WILL BE BURIED TODAY: Body was Taken to Pine Knot Springs on Saturday Morning. // The funeral of Mr. F. W. BLAND takes place Sunday morning at County Line church, near Pine Knot Springs. The remains were carried there on the morning train Saturday and services were conducted by Rev. MURRAY, of Ellaville, Ga. // Mr. BLAND died of general debility and realized to the end that he was soon to leave those endeared to him in this life. He lived the life of a good Christian and died with perfect reconciliation that his Maker had called him, even bidding his sorrowing wife and children a fond farewell as his gentle spirit on its way. // Besides his wife, Mr. BLAND is survived by the following children: Messrs. J. T. ENOCH and Howard BLAND, Mrs. Tyler EASON, of Atlanta; Mrs. E. L. BRENNAN, Mrs. Paul LAND, Misses Gladys and Margaret BLAND, of this city. // The pallbearers will be Messrs. T. S. ROBERTS, Lon BIGGERS, Hugh BAIRD, Willie CANNON, S. A. JONES and Jack DORCH."
