Elisabetha Birnbaum was born on September 10, 1850 in the village of Langenkandel, in Bayern-Pfalz (this is known part of present-day Rheinland Pfalz, Germany). She was the daughter of Johann Georg and Anna Barbara (Hanss) Birnbaum.

In approximately 1875, Elisabetha married Friedrich (later known as Frederick) Schauder. Together, they had at least 7 children, although only 4 of them survived (and are the only ones currently known):

1878 - Louisa
1881 - Frederick
1883 - Margaret
1886 - Elisabeth

It is believed that the Schauders emigrated to the US in between the births of daughters Margaret and Elisabeth - in approximately 1884 or 85. That passenger ship record has not yet been located.

Louise died before 1900, but her date of death is currently unclear. She may be buried with her husband in Trinity (Old German Lutheran) Cemetery in Detroit, but the records from that cemetery leave a lot to be desired.
