Joy A. Jones, age 83 of Shennington, passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Heath System- Franciscan Healthcare, La Crosse. In addition to her parents she is further preceded in death by two children, Jeffrey and Daniel; four brothers; one sister; and in-laws, Raymond Frei, Harold Frei, David and Dorothy Frei, Frederick Frei, Irvina and John Hayes.

She was born on February 12, 1935 on the home farm in Camp Douglas to Fred T. and Latitia L. (Loomis) Frei. Joy was a member of the Tomah High School Graduating Class of 1954. On May 22, 1954, Joy was united in marriage to Robert L. Jones in Waukon, IA.

Throughout the years, Joy has worn many different “hats.” First and foremost, she a was devoted wife and mother and through her children she was able to love countless grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, whom she adored deeply.

When she wasn’t busy with the life of a homemaker, Joy could be found helping on the farm, waitressing at local restaurants, and for over 25 years working as a certified nursing assistant at the Tomah VA Medical. After retiring from the VA, Joy continued to work at Wal-Mart as a cashier and greeter. She assisted her son and daughter-in-law preparing taxes at H & R Block, in Marshall, NC. Joy and Robert were the owner / operators at the Jones Family General Store in Shennington, WI, until Joy’s health no longer allowed her to work, forcing them to close the doors in 2011.

Joy had a deep-rooted faith that carried her throughout her life’s joys and sorrows. She was a charter member of Bethel Baptist Church and was very active when able, teaching Sunday school and was quick to lend a helping hand where ever the need be.

She loved gospel music, singing it, listening to it and sharing it, Joy loved teaching her children the words to those songs. Many car rides with the family, started and ended with music.

The meaning of the name Joy is to be full of joy, blissful and merry, Joy was all those things and more. Her “Happy-go-Lucky” disposition was contagious, and her smile could light up a room. She now rests peacefully amongst the angels.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2018, at Bethel Baptist Church, Camp Douglas, WI. Pastor Ronald Davidson will officiate. Burial will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Township of Scott.
