Albany - Monte Mitchell, age 69 of Albany, died Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at Hendrick Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 21st, at Albany Church of Christ with Anthony Parker officiating. Burial will follow in the Albany Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. Visitation will be Saturday morning, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Monte Douglas Mitchell was born on September 7, 1937, in Albany, Texas to parents, Elvy Beron Mitchell and Hazel Marie Harris Mitchell. He grew up in Albany and graduated from Albany High School in 1955. He later attended Draughn's School of Business in Dallas for two years. Monte married Sheri Renee Orbison on December 29, 1966, in Cedar Hill, Texas. He worked in the Business Office of TSTC-Abilene for fourteen years. Monte was preceded in death by his father, father-in-law, Guy Orbison Sr., one daughter, Jana Mitchell and one nephew, Doug Mitchell.
Monte is survived by his wife, Sheri Mitchell of Albany; mother, Hazel Mitchell of Albany; two sons, Mitch Mitchell and wife, Heather, of San Francisco, CA, and Tommy Mitchell of Dilly; one brother, Jackie Mitchell and wife, Carolyn, of Odessa; one sister, Treby and husband, Kent Beck, of Tuscola; one grandson, Max Mitchell of San Francisco, CA; mother-in-law, Sue Orbison of Brownsville; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Vicki and Kent Mullins of Brownsville, Charlie and Toni Orbison of Trophy Club, and Guy Jr. and Mary Orbison of Durango, CO; seven nephews; six nieces; four great nephews and six great nieces.
