He was born October 3, 1955 in Council Bluffs to Richard Lee and Wanda Carr Collett. He married Laura Jean Hathaway and later divorced.

A graduate of Ottumwa High School, he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1974 to 1976. Richard lived in Des Moines and South Dakota for a number of years before moving back to Ottumwa. He helped operate Oblates and Missioners of St. Michael and was known as Bro Ignatius Mary.

Surviving are three daughters, Rebecca Collett, Laura Marie Collett and Sara Beth Wilder all of Oklahoma City, OK; six grandchildren, Carly Jean Collett, Allen James Collett-Gentile, Ajia Marie Collett-Johnson, Anaya Collett White, Isaac Tyrik Lyons and Michael Sean Hunter; his mother, Wanda Collett of Ottumwa; a brother, Michael (Christiane) Collett of Nuremburg, Germany; a sister, Kristel (Nick) Linberg of Waukee; two nephews and a niece, Max, Harry and Carina; a spiritual adopted daughter, Wendy Moran and her four children, Todd, Raquel Elizabeth, Layna Renee and Joseph Michael.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard; a stillborn son, Joshua John-Paul Collett; and a grandson, Tyrik Lamar White.

Visitation with the family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home.

Private graveside services and interment will be at Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter with military honors.
