A 1950 graduate of Ottumwa High School, she attended the University of Iowa. Wanda worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. and at Woolworth's in Ottumwa. She worked at Carson Pieri Scott in Chicago, before returning to Ottumwa where she owned Sunshine Card & Gift Shoppe from 1983 to 1988. She then worked at Herbergers from 1989 to 1999. She was a former member of Davis Street Christian Church where she served as a deacon and elder as well as worked with the children in drama and music. Most recently she has been a member of First Lutheran Church. Wanda was involved with creating set designs for Horrabin Studio of Dance for 13 years. She participated in the Women's Health Initiative Program in Iowa City, worked with CASA and children at the Crisis Center since 1998. She was Active in Wilson Elementary School P.T.A. and volunteered briefly with the Juvenile Probation Office.
Surviving is a daughter, Kristel (Nick) Linberg of Waukee; a son, Michael (Christiane) Collett of Nuremburg, Germany; two grandsons, Max and Harry; four granddaughters, Carina, Rebecca, Laura and Sara; three great-granddaughters, Carly, Ajia and Anaya; three great-grandsons, Isaac, Alan and Michael; a brother, Raymond (Kathy) Carr of Ottumwa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Richard Collett Jr., a grandson, Joshua John-Paul and two great-grandsons, Christopher and Tyreek; three sisters, Mildred Peterson, Bonita Krum and Marilyn Pierce; an infant brother, Bobby Rhea Carr.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 29th at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, September 30th at First Lutheran Church with Rev. Mark Johnson officiating. For those unable to attend the service, you may watch live on the First Lutheran Church Facebook page. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, TRIBUTE PROGRAM, P.O. Box 1000 Dept 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908.
