Ardythe Hedges was born August 18, 1936 in Plentywood, the oldest child of Adolph and Doris (Billington) Romstad. Since Doris was a teacher at Antelope, Ardythe's grandparents, Axel and Adah Romstad, cared for her during the day. It was these doting grandparents who came up with her childhood nickname of "Tupa," as Axel could not say the "th" sound in Ardythe with Norwegian being his native language.

Ardythe attended school in Antelope, graduating in 1954. She then attended the University of Montana, graduating in 1958 with a BS in speech pathology. Ardythe earned her MS in speech pathology in 1992 at Minot State.

Ardythe married her high school sweetheart, Don Hedges, on July 19, 1959 in Antelope. Don and Ardythe moved to Edmonds, WA where Don was employed by Boeing and Ardythe was employed by the Edmonds School District as a speech therapist.

During their years in Edmonds, two children were born—Rom in 1960 and Rhea in 1964. While in Edmonds, Ardythe was active in Christ Lutheran Church and involved in leadership positions in Campfire Girls.

In 1976, Don and Ardythe returned to Antelope. Ardythe was employed as the speech/language pathologist for the Sheridan Daniels Cooperative, teaching speech correction in the schools from Opheim to Medicine Lake. Ardythe was active in Antelope Creek Lutheran Church and then Plentywood Lutheran Church, serving on the church council, taking part in WELCA , choir, and youth-related activities.

Ardythe and Doris started the Antelope Dinner Theatre where Ardythe directed and performed musical and theatrical dramas. Ardythe enjoyed playing bridge and golfing.Ardythe was very proud of her grandchildren's accomplishments, never missing Risa's ballgame, musical performance, or play. Ardythe never missed a performance by the Missoula Children's Theatre in Plentywood when Risa, Cameron, or Damon participated. Grandma Ardythe remains a valued inspiration in their lives.

Ardythe's family and friends will fondly remember her laugh, quick wit, and great sense of humor.

Preceding Ardythe in death is her parents Adolph and Doris; her brother Robert "Buzz" Romstad; her son-in-law Mike Cooke; and a very long list of spoiled Siamese cats.

Ardythe is survived by her husband of 60 years, Don; her son Rom (Patti); her daughter Rhea Cooke; her grandchildren Risa Hedges, Cameron Cooke, and Damon Cooke; and her sister-in-law Susie Romstad.

Cremation has taken place and Ardythe asks the congregation to respect the "dust" in the sanctuary.
