Dale Banta, 93, formerly of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, Dec. 15, 2019, at his residence in Columbus, Indiana.
He was born Oct. 22, 1926, in Shelbyville, the son of Claude Banta and Ollie (Williams) Banta. He married Dorothy L. (Larkey) Banta on Oct. 26, 1947, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 6, 2019.
Mr. Banta is survived by his daughters, Jeana Lynn Nordstrom of Naples, Florida, and Sherri Banta, of Columbus, Ind.; his son, Dale Keith (Nancy) Banta, of Hope, Ind.; eight grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his infant son and daughter, one brother, and one sister.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served during WWII. Mr. Banta worked at Newsom Trucking from 1951 to 1981 and owned Banta Rentals. He was a member of the Hanover Boat Club. Since 1957, Dale and Dorothy cherished the times they spent together in their cottage on the Ohio River.
Friends may call Sunday, Dec. 22, 2019, from noon to 2 p.m. at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN 46176. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Reverend Harvey Weaver officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
