Frank Lamar Creel of Pensacola, Florida, was born December 17, 1924. He passed on October 25, 2008, in Pensacola.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lehman Eugene Creel, his mother, Ida Mae Newton Creel, his brothers, James Newton Creel and Cecil Morris Creel.
He was survived by his wife, Beverly, daughters, Susan Creel Patterson and her husband, Timothy Patterson, Lynne Creel Owsley and her husband, David Owsley, and Michelle Creel Crane, as well as brothers Lehman Eugene Creel, Jr., Billy Ray Creel, and Clifton Wyatt Creel. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jennifer Lynne Owsley, Rebecca Marie Fields and her husband, Jeremy Fields, David Hedleston Crane, Elizabeth Marie Crane, and Banks Lancaster Crane, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Frank Creel led a rich life of service to his country, his family, his church, and his community. He served on the aircraft carrier, Rendova, as a Flight Surgeon during the Korean War, and was a witness to some of the early nuclear tests in the South Seas. He was a Master Gardener in the state of Florida. He was active in the Camellia Club and Rotary. He created the landscaped pond at West Florida Regional Medical Center, where he was also a practicing psychiatrist and Director of Psychiatry for many years. He was Director Emeritus of Lakeview Center. He was the founder and first director of The Pavilion at West Florida, a regional psychiatric hospital.
He was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church, where he established the beautiful gardens on Palafox and Wright Streets. Two years ago, the garden on Palafox was named after him in honor of his dedication to the gardens and the church.
He was the recipient of many awards for his service to the field of Psychiatry, as well as many of the clubs of which he was a member. He was an oenophile, and was a founding member of a local wine-tasting group.
He was much loved and he will be missed by his family and his many friends.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church on Tuesday, October 28, 2008, at 2PM, with a reception to follow in the adjoining Parish Hall.
