Army Pfc. Craig was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Washington. Craig died in Husayniyah of wounds sustained from an improvised explosive device. Brandon was a student at Bohemia Manor High School where he was on the football team. He didn't get the highest grades in school mainly because he was more interested in befriending everyone he could. His charm won everyone over and earned him the title of homecoming king. In 2000, he graduated from school and worked as a carpenter and a restaurant cook before joining the Army in February 2006. He wanted to make something of himself and make his life better. Brandon was deployed in April 2007 and was primarily a driver for a Stryker Brigade Combat Team. The Stryker is a wheeled armored combat vehicle used by the Army and is designed to maneuver in urban terrain, sustaining speeds of 60 miles per hour. Last month, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for Valor for acting bravely when his unit came under attack while patrolling south of Tarmiyah in the Sunni Triangle. He was scheduled to return home in November on leave to see his wife and the love of his life, Jodi. Brandon was a great person who had a reputation of a goofy clown – the one who could be counted on to make everyone laugh. He loved to hunt, but most of all, he loved and believed in the Army. Brandon received numerous awards including a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal with valor device and one oak leaf cluster and the Combat Infantry Badge. He was also posthumously promoted to corporal. Brandon believed in what he was fighting for – he wouldn't have lived his life any other way.
