HAMLET: Mrs. Katie Gardner Smith, 90, of Hamlet, died Sunday, January 10, 2010 in Sandhills Regional Medical Center.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 Pm on Wednesday, January 13, in the Bobby Lammonds Memorial Chapel at Russell-Marks Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Richardson officiating. Interment will follow in the Sandy Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery.
Katie was born in Mt. Gilead on July 31, 1919 to the late Thomas R. and Annie Reeder Gardner. She was a dedicated member of Bethel Baptist Church and a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred David Smith, two sons, Harold and Ray Smith, and two daughters, Shirley Wilson and Carrie Cowick.
She is survived by a son, Fred David Smith, Jr. of Vass; three daughters, Wanda Sue Patterson of Pinehurst, Lois Jean Smith of Raeford, Grace Gregory of Hamlet; three sisters, Mattie Honeycutt of Albemarle, Betty Smith and Sarah Walker both of Salisbury; 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7-9:00 PM at Russell-Marks Funeral Home in Rockingham.
