March 25, 1929 - December 10, 2019 Mrs. Margaret Cromer Coffey, 90 of Mt. Vernon, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Somerset. 2nd Corinthians 5:8, "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” became a joyous reality for Margaret. She was born in Rockcastle County, KY on March 25, 1929 the daughter of Joe William and Louanna Stokes Cromer.
She was a graduate of Mt. Vernon High School and a life-long servant of the Lord and member of Cornerstone Church of Mt. Vernon, where she served as secretary for many years. She loved her church and her family and enjoyed sewing, crochet, and quilting. She had been a homemaker and was a retired clerk for Hiatt’s 5 & 10 in Mt. Vernon.
On June 10, 1950, she married Henry Josh Coffey and from that union came two children: Janice Vanzant and husband Roger of Mt. Vernon, and Dr. Dale Coffey and wife Phyllis of Burnside. Also surviving are: two grandchildren, Morgan Blair Poynter and husband Dustin of Burnside, and Austin Madison Coffey and wife Erin; two great granddaughters, Amelia Rose and Sophia Marie of Ward, CO; a brother, Gary Ray Cromer and wife Janie of Mt. Vernon; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Henry Josh Coffey; a sister, Christine Coffey; and three brothers, Robert, Jack, and infant Billy Coffey.
