He was united in marriage to Geraldine Mitchell on December 18, 1953. Mrs. Sims preceded him in death on May 24, 2014. Together they raised five children, watched their family grow to 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Since the passing of Mrs. Sims, the great grandchildren has grown by five. The Sims have left a family of 44 to carry on the love and legacy that started with just the two of them.
Mr. Sims was a school bus driver for the McNairy County Board of Education for several years and a farmer his entire life. He loved raising and training horses to work in the fields and log woods. He was an avid listener of Southern gospel music who enjoyed coon hunting and training coon dogs. He was a member of Union Grove United Methodist Church.
Mr. Sims departed this life on December 9, 2019 in Adamsville, Tennessee at the age of 88 Years, 4 Months, 12 Days. He is survived by a daughter, Annette (Sims) Brewer and husband Troy; four sons, Elton Sims and wife Brenda, David Sims and wife Roxanne, Barry Sims and wife Amy, Terry Sims and wife Janice; a brother, E.G. Sims and wife Joy; a sister-in-law, Joyce Sims; thirteen grandchildren, Matt Sims and wife Tarra, Mitch Sims and wife Amanda, Ashley (Sims) Wilson and husband Tyler, John Sims, Barrett Sims and wife Kayla, Mason Sims, McLain Sims, Daniel Sims and wife Kristin, Colten Sims and wife Lauren, Nike Temple and husband Brian, Naomi Johnston, Ben Brewer, Allison Brewer; fourteen great grandchildren, Maddie, Turner, Ansleigh, Evie, Olivia, Allie, Galilee, Sophia, and Jackson Sims, Rachel, Sarah, and Tristan Temple, Callie and Aaron Johnston; family at Adamsville Healthcare and Rehab; and Asera Care Hospice family.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Sims was preceded in death by a brother, Obra Sims.
