Walter served his country honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He spent most of his work life in the retail business and as the superintendent of Evergreen Cemetery. Walter had a passion for HAM radio operation, traveling, and camping with his family.
Walter is preceded in death by his father, William Ashley; his mother, Pearl Brummitt; and a brother, Robert Ashley.
He is survived by his spouse of 33 years, Helen R. (Richmond) Ashley; sisters, Norma Tomlinson and Mary Helen Wilson, both of Saint Augustine; and a brother, Raymond Ashley, also of Saint Augustine.
A graveside service, with Reverend Glen McCutcheon officiating, will be held at Evergreen Cemetery on Friday, December 6, 2019, at 1:00 pm.
