James Reid Nance, age 87, of Asheboro died Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro.

Mr. Nance was born in Randolph County on September 28, 1932 to Joseph Anderson and Annie Bell York Nance.

He served his country in the U.S. Air Force. James loved to garden and give away produce, was the owner/operator of Nance's Greenhouse for over 45 years. He attended Sandy Creek Primitive Baptist Church and New Union United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents,

James was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Shaw Nance, and siblings, Ollie Nance Woodell, Gurney Nance, Charlie Nance, Wid Nance, and Bernice Smith.

He had a wealth of knowledge, especially about his plants. He loved to joke and tell long tales, but his greatest joy was spending time with his grandkids. James enjoyed woodworking and even built his own casket.

He is survived by his daughter, Sherrie Nance of Durham; son, Randy Nance and wife Kim of Asheboro; grandchildren, Anderson McCord, Alex McCord, Jessica (Troy) Young, Mauressa (Terry) Sweatt; great grandchildren, Jaxon Young, Terry Jr. Sweatt, Alisyn Sweatt, Braxton Sweatt.

The family will receive friends Thursday, December 5, 2019 form 6-8 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro. Funeral services will be held Friday December 5, 2019 at 11:00 am in the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lynn Watts Cash officiating. Burial with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Hospice of Randolph, P.O. Box 9, Asheboro, NC 27204-0009.
