Hermese Hatch Crump passed away peacefully on July 9, 2007 released from earthly bonds to the awaiting arms of her eternal companion, parents and loved ones. She was born November 21, 1918 in Provo, Utah to Herman Parkin and Jeanette Linton Hatch, named after her father. Raised in the farming communities of Hatch and Chesterfield, Idaho, Hermese grew up riding horses and working the fields with her Dad. After completing the eighth grade, she spent time with her grandparents in the Woods Cross, Utah area to attend Davis High School. Following her high school graduation in 1936, she moved to California to work and then attended college at Utah State. Mom was a pioneer among modern women. She served as a missionary for the LDS Church in the Western States Mission assigned to Rapid City South Dakota area, taught school for a year in McCammon, Idaho, and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II, where she served as a Pharmacists' Nurse, Third Class. It was while driving a ‘cracker-box ambulance' that she met and fell in love with a navy boy whom she would marry. She married Kenneth Elmer Crump, July 2, 1946 in the Logan Temple where their union was sealed for time and all eternity. Together they moved into reserve barracks on the Utah State University campus, completed their education on the GI Bill, and started their family. Following graduation, they returned to Chesterfield to farm and raise five children. Hermese also returned to the classroom where she spent 27 years enriching the minds and hearts of the many students she loved and nurtured. Her loving companion passed away in 1975. She retired from her beloved profession in 1982. Hermese was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in both ward and stake levels in the Primary, Relief Society and Young Women's organizations. After moving to Logan in 1983, she served as an officiator in the Logan LDS Temple. She spent the last seven years of her life living with her daughter in North Ogden, Utah. She was an avid reader and letter writer—every birthday and special occasion was marked with a personal note and a card. She enjoyed cross-stitching, traveling and cheering for the Utah Jazz. She was a compassionate and loving friend and all were welcome in her home. Most importantly, she loved and cared for her family, instilling in them the strong values she represented. She will be greatly missed. Hermese is survived by her children: D'Ann (Bill) Jorgensen, Grace, Idaho; Kern (Linda) Crump, Burley, Idaho; Nancy Crump, Heyburn, Idaho; Nyle (Jamy) Crump, Chesterfield, Idaho; Rene' Crump and Michele Hart, North Ogden, Utah; and a legacy of 17 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, her son Brent Crump.
