Duane was the son of Frank C. and Betrice (Johnson) Mathes. He was a resident of Stroud all his life. Duane and Patty was married May 19,1981. Duane loved to coon hunt. He was lifelong cattle man and work in law enforcement. His career started at the Stroud PD and in 1977 began a long career at Lincoln County Sheriff Office where he was first a deputy, then undersheriff and in 1996 elected Sheriff. He retired for Lincoln County in Dec of 2000 he began working as a pumper for Gordon Oil and Cano Petroleum retiring to full time ranching. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank C & Betrice Mathes & one sister Joann Rill.
Survivors include wife Patty of the home, two sons, David Mathes & wife Erin of Davenport, Danny Mathes of Davenport, three daughters, Darla Mathes of Chandler, Patricia Mathes-Kerr & husband Michael of Chandler, Katherine “Katie” of Vinita, OK, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services were held at the Parks Brothers Chapel December 5, 2019 with Paul Coffee officiating. Services were under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Stroud.
